How to live, laugh and see the funny side of GOD

GOD has a lot of sense of humour.

When we were kids, gadgets and television didn’t take much of our time, we usually played at night when the moon shined the brightest. Growing up, we kids were just fascinated when the moon on one of those nights could flash the smile when it was in crescent and right angle. As kids, we thought the heaven was smiling. Growing old sends us back into knowing our happy GOD.

Nature and extraordinary experiences reflect the funny and humorousness of GOD. Every time we look at nature and glance on old pictures, they become treasures to keep. They are wealth that could make us smile and if we spend more time, we’ll end up laughing.

How to live, laugh and see the funny side of GOD

1. Just laugh.

GOD laughs too.

Reminiscing that day when “LORD GOD said, behold, the man is become as ONE of US, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever.” Genesis 3:27

Assessing what had happened in spite of the disappointing choice of Adam and Eve, the scenes of tears to shed since then until our times as curses of pain and suffering will abide with humans for a while.

GOD had a laugh.

The triune GOD counselled and had funny moments by saying ‘man as one with us, to know good and evil’. They have time to chat and by foreseeing the future were gladdened for those who had believed.

We were made by GOD to laugh in the ups and downs of life. People laugh differently. Some laugh loudly, some lightly.

Laughter truly is GOD’s medicine.

There is even a laugh that can make us laugh.

Try to laugh now and see the works of GOD.

2. Cast away our fear.

Things that cause ‘phobias’ surround us. Why do we fear?

GOD was calling them to HIS presence of joy but Adam replied ‘…heard THY voice in the garden, and I was afraid, …’ (Genesis 3:10).

Love is a fruit of the HOLY SPIRIT (Galatians 5:22) and we should cast away our fear. (1 John 4:18).

When we develop love relationship for dog and cats, horses and birds, fishes and other species, our phobias are slightly then slowly overcomed. Spending time with animals gives pure joy.

A dog’s excitement of seeing you after many days is highly anticipated.

Cats being graceful and sweet seem telling us, ‘how’s your day?’.

It is therapeutic for agape love replacing our old nemesis fear, reviving our health and social relationships.

Then we’ll see how funny looking is a dog, whose emotions are all in its tail.

Cat that hates water a lot but clean self by licking.

Rats that have big front teeth.

Cockroaches though disgusting to many have a funny-looking antenna resembling a classic moustache.

Ants communicate like they kiss.

GOD made them for us to smile, laugh, and enjoy life.

So love and live life without fear with the LORD.

3. Dwell on the good.

Creatures came into being by the command of GOD in a design, ‘… that it was good.’ (Genesis 1:21, 25)

Everything the LORD has put in this earth has preserved the good, the amazing and the helpful ingredients to spice up our lives.

If goodness is all from GOD, why do snakes have venoms?

Roses have thorns?

Why do mosquitoes bite and makes people sick?

All because of sin. Sin is so destructive. It marred HIS creation. It twisted its purpose and darkened the character of GOD. Yet in spite of these all, there are still in stored goodness and mercies in GOD’s creation.

Paul wrote by saying, “finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians 4:8

Every time we focus on the thorns, we miss the beauty of the rose and the scent it gives.

If we are stucked with the thoughts of venom harming us we forget that snakes do it to prey on rats and other creatures to balance our eco-system.

Mosquitoes who usually fed on animal’s blood now because of lack of it eventually harm us. Moreover, if we don’t take care and clean our surroundings, stagnant waters become their breeding grounds. Cleanliness is next GODliness, right?

Dwell on the good and think of these things.

4. Enjoy the moment.

Bizarre situations seem odd and stressful but enjoying the moment will not aggravate it.

Situations like earthquakes, storms, and flood are natural calamities. After securing and doing advance preparations, enjoy the moment.

In the Philippines, we usually had 100 storms in a year, causing havoc and loss of properties.

Focus on the enjoyment of having no class, plenty of sleep, family togetherness. Even the poorest meal of noodles with fried and dried small fish we call ‘tuyo’ becomes one of the greatest moments.

Experiencing flood became a free-entrance-at-your-own-risk swimming pool. T’was one of the best memories of my childhood.

Just enjoy the moment for every prayer uttered in HIS NAME is our greatest assurance.

In Asia, there is always plenty of rain. I find it funny because it slows down everything, people stop what they were doing in hustle and bustle life.

It becomes a reflection time.

Time to call friends and a perfect setting for a lunch or dinner.

In life, we always have a choice. So choose to be happy, see, and experience what is gained and not on the loss.

Then, by faith, we’ll see that GOD’s literal showers of blessing outweighs the troubles of each day.

5. Be like a little child.

Children are fascinatingly funny. They might be annoying at times but bring such a joy to be with. They are humanities fountain of youth.

I remember finding a small fruit worm when we were eating one day. I took the little worm and showed it to them then they just burst in excitement, joy and anxiousness in one moment. It had in me a good laugh.

I Even showed the picture I took with them and the worm, my wife had a nice laugh too.

JESUS tells us, “verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18:3

Be like a child not a childish one.

Go walking in the rain.

Get dirty with beach sands.

Climb trees and pick fruits if you still can.

Play children games under the moonlight.

Children’s joy are so simple. They could laugh and have fun practically on anything. They don’t need spending much to travel and be at expensive hotel to enjoy life GOD has given.

Enjoying life is a choice.

By having a stronger faith in GOD makes a clearer view of HIS character. That GOD is love (1 John 4:8).

HE wants us to have assurances in HIS promises, peace in HIS hope and joy in HIS love.

Don’t stop growing in the LORD.

Pray in the power of HIS NAME.

Discover the wonders in the HOLY SCRIPTURE.

Enjoy HIS marvellous creation then we’ll see the funny side of our GOD.
